Meet Roger Wilson

Founder and rod designer.

A trout stream out the front door.

I grew up on Big Creek in the mountains of western North Carolina, with wild rainbow trout running past the front yard. I have been chasing them ever since, including more than 15 years of competitive fly fishing.

I started Highland Rod Company because a nymphing rod has one job: to tell you the truth about what your flies are doing. I wanted to build the rod that does that job better than anything I could buy.

A family business.

I taught my youngest son to fly fish, and he went on to earn a spot on the Fly Fishing Team USA Youth Team. Today he and his girlfriend work beside me in the shop, building the rods that carry our name.

We fish them, we build them, and we take them on the road to competitions together.
